My Prayer For Us

[Psalm 63]
{A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.}

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee:
my soul thirsteth for thee,
my flesh longeth for thee
in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
To see thy power and thy glory,
so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
Because thy lovingkindness is better than life,
my lips shall praise thee.
Thus will I bless thee while I live:
I will lift up my hands in thy name.
My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;
and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
When I remember thee upon my bed,
and meditate on thee in the night watches.
Because thou hast been my help,
therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
My soul followeth hard after thee:
thy right hand upholdeth me.
But those that seek my soul, to destroy it,
shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
They shall fall by the sword:
they shall be a portion for foxes.
But the king shall rejoice in God;
every one that sweareth by him shall glory:
but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
(KJV)

This Psalm has touched me today. In light of my earlier article about the battle I’ve been fighting, this spoke directly to my heart. It is my prayer. And the enemies that seek me are the dark powers holding me down. I just want to live a life that is pleasing to God, doing the most I can do for Him. In light of a recent post by a sister, I wrote a poem in response to one written by Amy Carmichael.

~O For Fire~

A light set upon a hill.
A light on a distant shore.
O light that’s burning still,
Please burn bright forevermore!

Be not quenched nor forsaken!
Be not dead nor cold nor still!
Be not ever shaken!
But the world with light now fill!

O for fire deep within us,
A fire that burns to the core!
For fire that shakes the dust,
And yet burns forevermore!

May we, a small band of sisters seeking Truth in God, be fires that cannot be quenched! May we be lights to blinded eyes! May we be healing to the broken, refreshment to the weary, water to the thirsty, warmth to the cold, hope to the bound! May we be little Christs walking in this world, living testimonies for Him! May we be faithful ambassadors! May we be pleasing lives lived with no reserves, no retreats, and no regrets! God, mold us into Your image! Make us wholly Thine! We are Yours, Lord! Please use us in this world…

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

Love in Christ,
Kegan Cook

    As far as we stay in this world,the battle in our soul may never cease.But we can still have way to pray. We also know that God answer us if we seek Him with true heart.Thank you for sharing your experience and poem.

    • Dearest Sister Jessica,

      Thank you very much! I normally omit meter in my poetry (a trait I tru to work on) and focus more on the flow of the words. But I decided to go a little more traditional on this one and make sure my meter was consistent. Thank you!
      I am very encouraged to know that this has impacted you. ๐Ÿ™‚ I pray that all of my articles would leave people at a crossroads, as Jim Elliotte prayed his interactions might do. That people could not simply overlook them but must be changed and impacted by them.
      May God bless you abundantly!

      Your little sister,
      Kegan Cook
